Day 1

We will meet up at Zanzibar airport and fly out together to mainland Tanzania. Upon arrival, we will be driven to Lake Manyara National Park where we will be staying at an upscale campsite inside the park. We'll settle in before our big day ahead.

Day 2

After breakfast we will head over to Ngorongoro Crater for our first safari. This crater, which was voted as one of the seven natural wonders in Africa, is the  largest intact volcanic caldera on earth and has therefore become its own ecosystem and one of the most densely populated natural sanctuaries for African mammals. From the comfort of a Land Rover, get ready to see a wide variety of wildlife.

Our second safari will start bright and early. We will go to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is most famous for the amount of elephant herds, but expect to spot many other animals as well. After lunch in the park we will be driven back to the airport where we will return to Zanzibar. Once back, we will be driven to the east coast of the island where we will be staying in a private oceanfront villa. We will be welcomed by dinner cooked by our private chef.

Day 3

Itinerary

To start we will head over to the Bahia Palace.  This 200 year old historic palace shows off the Moroccan love of stunning architecture. Everywhere you turn you'll be pulling out your camera! Afterwards, we will wander in to the narrow alleys of Mellah, also known as the Jewish Quarters, with a stop at spice shop that is run by women. Free time in the late afternoon and then dinner together at a lovely rooftop spot.

Day 5

*This itinerary is subject to change. While we will include all of these activities, the days they take place may be swapped.

Day 8

We will enjoy our last rooftop breakfast before being driven to the airport to bid goodbye to our group and this beautiful land.

*this itinerary will be done in opposite order for the second group

Tanzania, like all of Africa, is still recovering from colonization and stolen resources. This means that as a developing country it can sometimes experience power outages or other small disruptions. This is usually brief and locals can help guests accommodate. You will see other indications of some of the struggles of the locals. But we ask that if you sign up for this trip, you come with a heart and mind ready to learn and see the beauty of this place and the strengths in the local culture. We will have a zero tolerance for any derogatory comments about the way of life, culture, or people of this beautiful land. Those in our group are also asked to not engage in any activity that contributes to beggar/bestower mentality such as handing out money or candy. As much as possible, we have done our best to make sure, whether by who we hire or how we tip, that money spent on this trip goes back into local hands. If you have any questions about our stances, please feel free to ask us before signing up.

special notes

optional dolphin safari

You will have the option of adding on a dolphin safari for an extra $100. This exciting 2-3 hour safari will begin in the early morning where you will be driven to the southern side of the island and get onto a small boat to go out to where the dolphins often are found. Once you find the wild dolphins, you can jump off the boat with snorkel gear to see the magic of the dolphins swimming below and by you. While the multiple small boat captains are very skilled in finding the dolphins, and are able to about 90% of the time, it is not a guarantee that this will always happen. The sea can sometimes be a bit choppy in this area, so this excursion is also not recommended for pregnant women or those who suffer from motion sickness.
